THANKSGIVING TURKEY BAGS

November 30, 2015 by Carisa

Thanksgiving Bags

Aren’t these turkeys adorable? I had a blast making these with my kiddos!

A fun Thanksgiving tradition! Make Thanksgiving Turkey Bags for your friends!

Thanksgiving is a great time to focus on teaching kids to be thoughtful and thankful. We have a bunch of different ways that we do that in our every day life. But in November, we try to find even more unique ways to focus on gratitude.

One of the activities on my kid’s lesson plan for this month was making a fun gift for their friends. So we decided to make turkey bags.

They each got to choose 3 friends that they were thankful for and then they got to make a turkey bag for those friends.

The night before we did this activity I cut out all the parts and found the googly eyes…  They were tucked way back in the craft closet! Thank heavens I keep everything, right? And thank goodness I looked for the googly eyes before we got started too. I wanted to make sure that the kids weren’t waiting on me. If they have to wait for arts and crafts, they seem to be ten times more destructive than usual.

Here are some tips to help this activity go smoothly. Get all your supplies in one spot. You don’t want to be running around while trying to assist the kiddos.

We used a mixture of glue sticks and hot glue. Because of all the parts, I wanted to make sure they stuck good and fast! I used the hot glue… not the kids. Although I did have the kids drop the eyes from above onto a dot of hot glue. It was kind of a fun game.

Then we got into a system. We glued the body to the bag and then put the head together. After attaching the feathers to the head. We put the whole bird onto the body!

It was definitely a fun project. After making the bags the kids were even more excited to choose what went into each bag. We decided on Pumpkin Spice playdough and a cookie cutter. After that we attached a little gift tag and delivered them to our friends!
