SNOW GLOBE MEMORY ORNAMENTS

December 10, 2014 by Carisa

A fun and beautiful way to capture the memories of Christmas from Messes to Memories

A tradition that Scott and I are starting this year is all about making memories. We’ve decided every year, we’ll make a special ornament for the tree to help us remember that year! This year we decided to go with Snow Globe style ornaments.

This is a tradition that we want to involve our kids in 100%. So I had the idea, but I wanted Lanae to be excited about it and have a part. So she got to pick out what went inside the ornaments (beside the picture, of course).

She picked sequins, shiny snowflakes and snow… All of which can be found at your local craft store.

When she pulled out the advent and got to open the bag, she was ecstatic to find the things that she picked out as well as the empty ornaments.

We also took pictures earlier this week to put inside the ornaments. Just so you know, it is outrageously expensive to try and print pictures 2×2. So we put 6 pictures on a sheet and printed them out on 4×6 prints. It took some time to figure out the sizing so that they fit perfectly. But it worked and was super cheap.

So while she filled the ornaments with snow and sequins, Scott and I cut and prepped the pictures.

She did such a good job filling the ornaments and it was a task that kept her busy for quite a while…

After Lanae filled the ornaments. We stuffed the pictures inside, very carefully, so we didn’t damage them.

Each picture is 2×2 and we hot glued the edges together very carefully (small amount of glue evenly spread down the edge of the picture) so that there wasn’t any extra stringy glue and the pictures didn’t bulge.

We decided to do 3 pictures in each ornament so that you can get a fun view no matter how you look at it.

That way we also got to include more pictures… it was just too hard to choose 1 or 2 favorites. So we settled on 3.

We used tweezers to position the pictures just right. We also attached a little ribbon to the top so we could make the pictures stand upright.

We made one for Lanae…

And one for Owen…

He was so excited. After having the tree up for a while, he finally understands how to decorate it… I love how he always runs up to the edge of the tree and shouts “pretty, pretty” until someone responds to him. He is such a good kid not to touch when there is so much temptation 🙂

We put his ornament right at eye level so he can see it whenever he wants.

I made a little printable 2×2 that says Our First Christmas at Home 2014.

Two ornaments have pictures of both kids and the printable so we remember what year we did this fun project…

This year has really been so hard and yet so wonderful at the same time. We want to remember all the good in our lives right now.

These look like so much fun to make! Before I decide if I’m going to do this project, I carefully read your instructions, but couldn’t figure out how you get the pictures in the globes, especially after you glue three together.

Thanks! These were so fun and we love pulling them out each year. It was tricky to get the pictures in. We had to carefully roll them up and push them in and then carefully unrolled them inside. The quicker you do it, the less rolled up they look!
