FAVORITE THINGS ABOUT HAVING A BABY

Top 5 Things about Having a Newborn from Messes to Memories

As the long months of pregnancy finally came to an end I was anticipating so many of my favorite things about having a newborn….

I recently gave birth to our third baby… So I have a little idea what having a newborn is like.

Babies are a lot of work. And being sleep deprived can really mess with your head. However I wanted to take a minute and jot down those things that make having a newborn worth it from the very beginning.

It really is hard to narrow it down to the top 5.

1. He is a miracle. In that very first moment that I heard my baby cry and held him in my arms I couldn’t believe that I not only survived the last 9 months, but I was able to bring another child into the world and he was so perfect to me… All 9 lbs and 7 oz of him!! My heart instantly filled with joy and gratitude. Every child is a blessing and a true miracle.

2. Newborn cuddles. All three of my babies have spent much of their first several weeks of life cuddled up against my chest sleeping. I love these cuddles because they give me a reason to sit and think and just bond with my new baby.

3. Kisses. There is something about their soft skin that just makes you want to give kisses over and over again! Every time I kiss him I am reminded of where he came from and his beautiful spirit and I feel so blessed to be his mommy!!

4. My body is no longer a heat factory… Among other discomforts of pregnancy. Especially with this last baby, I have been so relieved to finally be able to walk without supporting all that extra weight on my hips. I know that seems selfish, but it is a relief to know that I can start to resume normal activities soon… and be a better mom to all of my children.

5. Watching them sleep. There is something so peaceful about a sleeping baby. I can’t even describe it. Of course, I won’t spend too much time watching him sleep, since, ya know, I need some sleep too!

    Congratulations! Your baby is perfect!
Did you know babies immune systems aren’t fully developed. When a mother kisses her baby, she gets a sample of whatever dirt is on the baby’s skin. Her immune system analyzes it for pathogens, and the next day she produces breast milk specially tailored to kill whatever the baby was crawling around in the day before.
