BUILD-A-FORT DATE NIGHT plus A CHALLENGE

June 25, 2014 by Carisa

Building a fort is a great date night idea because it is something fun and unique that you can do at home. It costs absolutely nothing and requires teamwork and creativity… which definitely strengthens your marriage. As does the time spent inside the fort.

Read to the end to see the BUILD-A-FORT Challenge!

When we have a fun date night like this at home, we try to do a family date night portion right after dinner and then, we ship the kids off to bed and have our much needed alone time to unwind and enjoy each other’s company.

For this date night, Scott designed and made a good portion of the fort while the kids tried to destroy it. It was great fun watching him re-do something several times because our youngest, Owen, kept pushing the pillows over or pulling the blankets down. After the fort was partially complete, we chased the kids through the tunnel connecting to our fort and played tickle monster.

We also read a few good books and cuddled…

After the kids went to bed, we pulled out the best S’mores Caramel Popcorn in the whole entire world and lit a candle. We decided we would keep our fort night activities pretty simple and pulled out some of our old card games we haven’t played for a while. After some Skipbo (which I won) and some intense rounds of Phase 10 (tie), we decided to call it a night!

But we left the fort up so the kids could play in it again in the morning. We’re pretty cool like that!

This is the second time we have had a fort date night. The first time we built a fort and watched a movie in it. Scott was super excited about it because we don’t watch a lot of movies! It seems crazy, but there really is something special about taking the time to build a fort together. I highly encourage you to take the time to build a fort with your loved ones for date night this week!

In fact, I’m going to issue a challenge to you and your family/spouse/significant other to BUILD-A-FORT this week for Date Night! After you build your fort, take a picture and share your pictures with me and you will have the opportunity to be featured on my site. Encourage your friends and families to spend time together and they can enter this challenge, too!

I will be featuring my favorite submissions in a TOP 3 FORTS post next week! Thanks for participating!

What a fun idea! If my husband wasn’t taking his medical board exam in 6 days we would totally participate in the challenge!
